On June 11-20, 2006, a short-term mission team from Idaho came to Coban, Guatemala. The team members represented three different churches in and around Boise, Idaho. This multi talented team came prepared to impart the word of God in many different forms.
To start off, Mike Brown taught an evangelism seminar to the local church body. The two nightly teaching sessions gave the Guatemalans techniques that they can use to reach the people that they see every day for Jesus. Also the group teamed with local young adult leaders in a school evangelism effort. Four different schools were presented the gospel message in the form of music, drama, and preaching. In two of the schools, students responded to the altar call and made decisions for the Lord. He touched their lives in a special way and as a result, tears came forth as the Holy Spirit restored broken hearts. Some of these students are now members of the young adult/youth group where they are learning more about God.
The three major night time activities were an evangelistic film and two open air concerts. Back to back on Friday and Saturday night the evangelism was focused in the park of the neighborhood called, “San Marcos” which is located about five blocks from the church. On Sunday, Mike Brown was the guest speaker for the morning worship service. On Sunday afternoon, the open air concert was in the municipal district of “San Pedro Carcha”. Throughout the three events, there were many decisions made to rededicate their lives to the Lord. Others came forward to receive special prayer for healing and other needs. After experiencing a powerful prayer, one man exclaimed, “Wow, it is like my eyes have been opened for the first time”! Praise the Lord for His divine presence throughout the entire week.
